Blubandoo Cooling Necktie Provides Relief for Ailing Golf Star Annika Sorenstam

Oceanside, CA- When Blubandoo® President Cindy Benedict donated more than 350 of her cooling neck ties to the field marshals and volunteers at the LPGA Kraft Nabisco Championship held at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, she couldn't know that one of her innovative products would come to the aid of three-time champion Annika Sorenstam.

Sorenstam, the LPGA’s all-time money winner, finished tied for second with Suzann Pettersen, five strokes back from champion Lorena Ochoa on Sunday. A day earlier, however, an upset stomach threatened to force Sorenstam to withdraw from competition.

On the back nine, Sorenstam, the LPGA’s all-time money leader, stumbled and had to lie down three times. An umbrella she was using to provide shade broke. Then a quick-thinking Kraft Nabisco volunteer took off her Blubandoo® Neckbandoo (cooling tie) and handled it to Sorenstam. Televised cameras captured this golf legend wearing the Blubandoo® Neckbandoo in-between shots for the rest of the back nine.

In an interview after completing Saturday’s round, Sorenstam said, “I just didn't know if I was going to make it. Well, my umbrella broke, so then I gave up on that. Yeah, then I had a cool thing around the neck to feel better. I just wanted to finish.”

After the completion of the tournament Sunday, Benedict briefly spoke to Sorenstam and presented her with another Blubandoo® Neckbandoo to match her pink-and-chocolate outfit.
